The Team 334 community extends far beyond our home shop. We give back to this community through our outreach programs, and do our best to open the door to STEM for students of all ages and backgrounds. It is our mission to prepare the next generation of community leaders and STEM professionals.
STEM Programming
Demystifying robotics starts in the classroom. Since 2021, Team 334 has provided hundreds of students with free STEM programming, both in our shop and out in the community. During the school year, we host Future World Vision, giving weekly in-depth lessons in engineering & circuit design. We also run Girl Scouts at Tech, collaborating with 6 girl scout troops to teach scouts the principles of design. Away from our home at Brooklyn Tech we teach two more classes, working with the Exam Schools Partnership Initiative and PS 46.
This season, we developed a new open source curriculum, available here on our resources page. If you are a robotics team or club interested in running your own STEM program, all our lesson materials are completely free to download and modify.

Community Events
Just one experience can spark a lifelong passion for engineering. We stay connected with the broader TechKnights community through public events and parties, giving prospective learners and parents a window into everything we do. In 2023, we worked with several other clubs to organize the first ever BTHS School Stem Showcase, reaching more than 2,000 students. We host over 500 people yearly in our annual booth at the Intrepid Museum’s Girls and Science and Engineering Day, and manage RoboFest, an annual party for parents and students. More people apply to Team 334 than we can take in, so we direct all 200+ students who attend our our tryouts and interest meeting each season to other STEM programs and teams, helping them continue their interest. These events can serve as a gateway into robotics, and be the spark that inspires students to further pursue STEM.

Volunteering
It’s impossible to make a change without focused effort. Every TechKnight puts in the work to fulfill our mission, which is why all of our outreach is fully staffed and organized by students. Beyond our own events, volunteering out in the Team 334 community is one of our top priorities—in the 2025 school year alone, team members racked up hundreds of community service hours. Before, after, and during build season, TechKnights ran workshops, volunteered with FIRST, and helped clean up public parks.

Sustainability
In and out of our shop, we do our best to build a healthy relationship with the environment. In 2026, we founded the BTHS Electronics Recycling program, and have collected over 130 pounds of batteries and scrap electronics from the school community which we recycle, dispose of properly and reuse. In addition, we also recycle all of our scrap metal and any other materials possible, saving over 250 pounds of aluminum just last year. Beyond just environmental sustainability, everything about Team 334 is structured to be enduring and self sufficient—our rookie mentorship system passes years of knowledge and experience from veterans to new members, and give back to our school and sponsors to ensure funding year after year. At the Gotham Regional tournament in 2026, we were awarded the Team Sustainability Award.
